Have you ever seen a speaker casting a spell over his audience and you wondered, “how does he do that?”. Well, along with all the tools for effective speaking there is still one ingredient that is essential to create such a thrilling impact. The spell is the unbreakable connection that a speaker builds with his audience, it is when a speaker grasps the cords of the audiences’ hearts and take them wherever he wants, it is the ingredient that makes your audience love you from the core of their hearts and be influenced by whatever you are saying.
Now you might be curious that what is that secret ingredient?
I named it Divine Ingredient. It comes from the skies through the divine source. It can not be created artificially but you can only ask for it by preparing ourselves for that.
At the start of my speaking journey, I always wished to create an impact like Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn, and Bob Proctor but I couldn’t. But it was 2017 when I gave a speech after which almost every eye was wet and people came to me saying, you have blown our minds and you have something very special. Now, apart from the audiences’ response, I felt very different on the stage while speaking. I felt that it was not me but someone else and that someone is a higher version of me. I never experienced that potential of mine and felt like it just came from the skies and penetrated my soul making my words more meaningful and my voice more impactful. After deeply reflecting on the experience and research I concluded that if we follow these three guidelines, the chances are higher that the universe will bestow on us that magic divine ingredient.
1. Intend To Give Value:
The intention is something you can not hide from your audience; it reflects all over you. A speaker should always have a people-oriented intention. He/she should intend to add value to people’s lives through their speech.
You should never speak for the sake of speaking but for the sake of changing lives. One of my mentors taught me that,” Noman, time is the most valuable gift one can give to anyone, you as a speaker are borrowing time from your audience to sit and listen to you. The time of your speech multiplied by the number of audiences is the worth of time you borrowed. Now make sure you have something equally valuable for them to have”. Now when you have that level of sense of responsibility, you shine differently and perform better.
2. Pick An Idea You Believe In:
Every speech has a topic or a central idea around which the whole content revolves. It is always an idea that you want to communicate to your audience. Now an idea or topic can be 10/10 in terms of importance and value but if that is not close to your heart, it will never penetrate the minds of your audience. If you just picked a thought-provoking idea from google and present it in front of people without believing in it, it will not provoke any thoughts. It might sound unbelievable, but it is the way it is, consider it as one of the laws of nature.
Whenever you have to present or speak, speak about the topic that matters to you, which you care about. Even if you are given a topic by someone else, do not present it unless you are fully convinced after research and you mean your content. Afterward, wear that content, be a flag bearer of it and go to the stage.
3. Dare To Be Vulnerable:
Have you ever noticed, In every superhero movie like Spider-man and Superman, there is always a personal life story of the superhero (college, love relation, family problems) that goes parallel with his extraordinary super-human life story? Do you know why? Because that is how an ordinary human can feel relatable and connect. Imagine if throughout the movie Spiderman is always saving people using his extraordinary powers and is undefeatable, boring! Right? Because now you cannot relate to it at all.
For some, vulnerability is a weakness, but many researchers have proved it to be a strength. A speaker should be vulnerable if he wants that divine ingredient to be bestowed while he speaks. For a speaker, vulnerability is to express fully on the stage and not holding back, You can not make your audience cry when you can not feel emotional on the stage, you can not make your audience smile unless you allow your natural smile to appear on the stage, you can not make your audience laugh when you hold your laughter back on the stage. Yes, there is a fine line of not breaking down, but you can still be emotional without breaking down. And this can only happen if you allow your true self to reflect in front of the audience through personal stories and examples. It takes a lot of courage to do that gracefully but it is worth being fearless.
So, all those wishing to mesmerize the audience and desiring for the divine ingredient to come from the skies and add into their speech should have a pure intention to give value, an idea they believe in, and courage to be vulnerable. When this trio combines, it becomes a magnet to the divine ingredient that later casts a spell over your audience.
